Pangot – Nainital
Pangot, a small village in district Nainital of Kumaon region in state of Uttaranchal, India. Pangot is off 13 Kms from Nainital, which is a popular hill station. If travelling from Delhi side, the better approach is through Kaladhungi via Tanda-> Bajpur. Just before 3odd Kms from Nainital and take a left on Kilbury Road to Panghot. The drive to here passes through relatively dense forest and very less traffic.
Pangot is not too famous but is well known among birders where more than hundred of species can be spotted. There are some spots known to locals where Cheer, Koklass and Khaleej Pheasant can be seen in morning hours.
There are some available short hiking trails from Pangot market through forest and are ideal for spotting birds.
Accommodations available in the area is mostly promoted by locals and they possess good amount of information related to available species of Birds, also there is one hidden trek route available through forest till Nainital and would be worth, but has to be strictly accompanied with a local help.
